Day 2 - Hargeisa (18km on foot, with a bit via taxi!)
After breakfast in my hotel I headed out to the Livestock Market,
I took a few nice photo's along the way on the dusty road. After exploring the
market (with some people telling me not to photograph) I then sat down with
some of the locals and had some tea which was great. I then decided to have another go
at trying to find the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, but this time I decided
to jump into a taxi along the way and even the driver had a few issues trying
to find it, he had to stop and ask about half a dozen people before we
eventually found it! He was a really nice guy and extremely helpful.
Fortunately, when I arrived at the Ministry of Tourism
office it was open as I arrived well after 12am (my guide book said it would be
closed). I met a nice guy who soon sorted me out with my $25 ticket for Las
Geel and my SPU waiver for Berbera and Burao as I told him I wish to travel using
public transport within Somaliland. With all my paperwork in hand (and a $5 tip
the guy wanted) I was all good to go.
I later headed back to the centre and stopped for a bite
to eat at Mandeeq Restaurant, (camel meat and rice finished off with a nice
coffee) before heading back to my hotel. Back at my hotel I’d arranged to meet
with some young cycling guys (I'd been in touch with them over Facebook back in
the UK), we discussed plans to ride together tomorrow, they are very kindly
providing me with a bike. They were a great bunch of guys; they did a Tik Tok
introduction video with me in the hotel before leaving!!
